Columbia @ Home Series - The Noble Grapes: A Wine Tasting

Expand your knowledge and enjoyment of wines with members of the Columbia Alumni Association’s (CAA) Wine Industry Network!

Greg Ahn ’05BUS, Aimee Chang ’06GSAPP, and Nicole Sierra Rolet, along with WIN co-founder Ken Catandella, senior executive director for CAA and University Relations, will introduce you to six of the most prominent grape varieties, discussing Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah/Shiraz.



Participants are encouraged to have any (or all) of the six varieties to join WIN for a virtual tasting plus informative and lively conversation.

Ahn is the founder and CEO of the Folktale Group, which manages the Folktale brand and a growing family of valuable businesses in wine, food, hospitality, and experiences. Founded in 2009, the Folktale Group has grown to encompass 11 national wine brands, two wineries, over 400 acres of vines, four restaurants, a national sales and distribution company, a special events business, and a craft spirits brokerage. Based in Carmel, CA, Folktale’s vision is to “Make Life More Joyful” for employees, customers, and stakeholders. Ahn received his undergraduate degree from Trinity College, and has master degrees from Columbia’s Graduate School of Business and the University of California, Berkeley. He lives in Carmel with his wife and three children.

Chang is a New York City-based director of finance and design at the family owned and operated Nine Suns Winery and HOUYI Vineyard in the Napa Valley. After 14 years in architecture, Chang led the design and construction of Nine Suns’ production and hospitality buildings, as well as its brand identity and packaging design. Her role expanded from design into winery operations, compliance, and finance. She is a licensed California architect and holds an MBA in Wine Business from Sonoma State University, an MArch from Columbia University, and a BA in Architecture from U.C. Berkeley.

Nicole Sierra Rolet is principal at Chene Bleu Wines. She left her career in international finance to join her husband Xavier Rolet KBE ’84BUS who had just embarked on his lifelong dream of making wine. Chêne Bleu wines were launched in 2006 to critical acclaim, earning top awards from their first vintage, and references as the first Super Rhônes. The Rolets experiment with regenerative viticulture, pushing the boundaries of organic, biodynamic and sustainable viticulture, and seeking to use bees to make better wine. The estate, La Verrière, operates as an eco-luxury hospitality venue, which this month won a trophy for Best Wine Tourism in France, and is home to an intensive wine course known as The Extreme Wine Experience.
