We have invited other Ivy League alumni clubs in New Jersey to join us, so bring your school spirit!

Orange Lawn was founded in 1880 and is one of the oldest grass court tennis facilities in the United States.

The OLTC grounds contain 14 har-tru and 6 grass tennis courts as well as 5 platform tennis courts and a newly renovated paddle “hut.”

Platform Tennis, or “paddle”, was created in 1928 in Scarsdale, NY, and is played as an outdoor racquet sport primarily in the Fall and Winter.  The sport is rapidly growing in popularity, as many consider the game to be the “chess of racquet sports” since spin, accuracy and strategy are more important than power.

For those who have not played the game, courts are approximately 1/3 the size of a tennis court and surrounded by a 12’ high superstructure of wires, allowing the ball to be played off the screens as in racquetball or squash.

Courts are elevated in order to allow propane tanks to fit underneath, which are used to evaporate any condensation that has accumulated on the court so that games can be played in almost any weather condition.  In addition, most courts have lights so matches are played well into the evening.

Our Platform Tennis Invitational is a DOUBLES round robin tournament and networking event.

You will be paired up with partners based on your skill level.

We will have pros to provide insight to players of all levels from beginners to advanced.

FAQs:

Q:  Do I need to bring a paddle?

A:  No, we will have extras available for you, but please let us know if you need a demo upon providing us with your skill level.

Q: What should I wear?

A: This event is rain or shine, and it may be a cold night as well.  We recommend wearing several thin layers so that your arms are mobile.  4 or 5 layers are great, and you shed them as you warm up. Gloves and hats are fine as well, but they should be thin.

Q: I’ve never played before, is this the right time to try the game?

A: Yes, as long as you have a baseline of racquet skills, we will pair you with others at your level.

Q: Will there be prizes?

A: Yes, the NJ based All Ivy Sports events like to incentivize competition!

Q: If I just want to come and watch, but not play, is that allowed?

A: Yes, we sell tickets to those who just want to watch, eat/drink and network and not play.
